Echocardiography Laboratory Receives Accreditation

The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) has recently accredited Oakdale Community Hospital’s Echocardiography Lab.

Oakdale Community Hospital’s Echo Lab uses sophisticated imaging technology to assess the structure of the heart and blood flow within it. An echo study can include precise measurements about the heart including its size, blood flow motion and velocity, and valve functioning. Echos are helpful in diagnosing structural defects, blockages, and many other heart conditions. “We are grateful to the efforts of our Echo Lab team Jan Lafleur and Elaine Luedecke,” noted James Bordelon, Director of Ancillary Services. “This accreditation is more than having the technology needed to diagnose heart conditions, it is also about having the experienced and well trained sonographers on our team who follow the guidelines and do their jobs well to ensure high quality care for each patient. There are very few hospital based Echo Labs that achieve accreditation, and I am proud that Oakdale Community Hospital has earned this prestigious distinction,” he explained.

To receive accreditation, hospitals must submit a comprehensive self-exam, and provide actual case studies for review. The ICAEL reviewers who are sonographers and physicians review every aspect of care in the Echocardiography Lab and only those hospitals which meet the Board’s high standards of care receive accreditation.
